Wow, is all I have to say...

So, it's New Year's Eve and I'm sitting in my pj's and I'm not going anywhere today. Well, technically, I can't go anywhere today. Our car broke down and it broke down good. Let me fill you in on the adventure...it was Christmas Eve, we were driving to my mom and dad's house in the middle of Saskatchewan when our car started overheating. It started this wretched beeping 'beep, beep, beep,' so annoying. Anyways, I knew from past exeriences that we'd better stop and not attempt to drive the two hours we had left - right dad!

Anways, to make a long story short, we towed the car into Saskatoon (with the help of Darren's dad) and left it at a shop to get fixed. We replaced the water pump, the timing belt, the tensioner and a few other hoses and things. Paid $800, grudingly I might add, and took the car home relieved that that ordeal was over.

You know, life should just stop over Christmas. People should only be expected to sit at home for 1 week, not go anywhere, not shop, not get things fixed - just stay put. Because our society doesn't operate like that, and we have pressing responsibilities like work, we were forced to try and deal with this while virtually every mechanic in Saskatoon ate turkey and took afternoon naps. You have no idea how much I appreciate all of those brave soles that go to work over the holidays. We can't have it both ways, either life comes to a halt for the week of Christmas or all people are forced to work through the holidays. Sounds like a good idea to me.

So we eventully get the car looked at and fixed but in the meantime Darren's had to catch a ride back to Calgary with friends. I'm left at my parent's house 4 days longer than planned. My work gets put on hold and now I'm behind 4 days, but my deadline hasn't changed. So, here I sit on New Years Eve in my pj's at my computer trying to catch up on my work - pathetic.

oh yah, and I forgot to mention that when I finally arrived safely in Calgary after this 8 day ordeal, my car acted up in the exact same way it did back on Christams Eve. So now I sit waiting for all of the mechanics in Calgary to celebrate New Years, deal with hangovers and drag their lazy butts back to work. Maybe they should take a lesson from me, deadlines don't disapear and people's cars don't stop breaking down just because it's Christmas time.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 2007 should be great!
